While it may lack the high-profile architecture of the new Perez Art Museum Miami, the venerable Wolfsonian-FIU Museum is beloved by culture-hungry locals. Set in a lavishly designed neo-Moorish structure just a short stroll from South Beach, the Wolfsonian’s collection features works by blue-chip European and American artists (particularly iconic craftsmen like Charles Rennie Mackintosh) as well as impressive pieces of industrial design and photography from the Industrial Revolution till the 1940’s. Perhaps best of all is the Wolfsonian’s gift shop—with its equally expertly curated range of design journals, home accessories, and surprisingly sophisticated fashions.
You can find the Wolfsonian-FIU Museum on the east side of South Beach. It’s on Washington Avenue right where it intersects with 10th Street. You’ll know it by the flags, which line the side of this multi-level white building.
